In short
- According to a Swiss market overview, an SME website with up to 15 pages costs CHF 2'000 to 5'000 as a fixed-price package once, CHF 3'000 to 8'000 with a freelancer, and CHF 5'000 to 15'000 with an agency.
- In addition, there is the domain (.ch around CHF 10 to 15) and maintenance with hosting (from around CHF 600) every year.
- A website builder costs from around CHF 20 to 30 per month in the standard rates – you do the work yourself.
- Always compare offers over three years and with the same services.
What the price consists of
A website costs twice: once during setup and then every year. If you only compare the first amount, you are comparing half.
One-time
- Concept and setup: Which pages are needed, what goes where?
- Design: adapt a template or create everything from scratch.
- Texts and images: provide yourself or have them written and photographed.
- Technology: forms, booking tool, newsletter, multilingualism, interfaces.
- Legal texts: imprint and privacy policy.
Every year
- Domain: your address on the web, for example yourcompany.ch.
- Hosting and SSL certificate: the storage space and the encrypted connection.
- Maintenance: updates of system and extensions, backups, security.
- Changes: new prices, opening hours, images – done yourself or at hourly rate.
According to the market overview from beyondweb.ch, the price is most strongly driven by the scope (number of pages and languages), functions such as booking tools or newsletter, interfaces to CRM or ERP, whether texts and images are provided – and whether the website is based on a template or completely customized.
What Swiss specialist portals mention
The following ranges are from the market overview of beyondweb.ch, as of October 11, 2026. They are benchmark values, not a price list.
| Type of website | Website builder / fixed price | Freelancer | Agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-pager (one page) | CHF 500 – 1'500 | CHF 700 – 2'200 | CHF 1'000 – 3'500 |
| SME website (up to 15 pages, CMS, contact form) | CHF 2'000 – 5'000 | CHF 3'000 – 8'000 | CHF 5'000 – 15'000 |
| Complex website (from 15 pages, multilingual, interfaces) | – | CHF 5'000 – 15'000 | CHF 10'000 – 30'000 |
The same source lists hourly rates of CHF 120 to 250 at agencies and CHF 110 to 180 for freelancers. Any subsequent changes you cannot make yourself are billed at this rate.
Plus annually: the domain (.ch averages CHF 10 to 15), hosting for a business website (CHF 150 to 200) and maintenance including hosting and extensions – from CHF 300 for a one-pager, from CHF 600 for an SME website.
If you build it yourself: According to webartistik.ch (as of January 1, 2026), website builders cost from € 29 (Wix Core), from CHF 21 (Squarespace Business), from CHF 29 (Jimdo Grow) or from CHF 29.90 (Hostpoint Sites) per month. You handle design, text and legal notices yourself.
Calculate over three years
A low initial price with high ongoing costs is often more expensive after three years than a higher initial price with low ongoing costs. Therefore, add up everything that accrues over three years. An example using the lowest values from the ranges above, for an SME website:
| Path | Setup | 3 years ongoing | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agency | CHF 5'000 | 3 × (CHF 600 maintenance with hosting + CHF 10 domain) | CHF 6'830 |
| Freelancer | CHF 3'000 | 3 × (CHF 600 + CHF 10) | CHF 4'830 |
| Website builder, self-built | Your time | 36 × CHF 21 to CHF 29.90 per month | CHF 756 to CHF 1'076 – plus your time |
Not included: any changes billed at hourly rates, new features and your own time. Ask each quote what maintenance specifically covers.
Seven questions for every quote
- Who owns the domain? It should be registered in your name, not the agency's. A .ch domain is registered through a registrar; the registry is Switch.
- Are texts and images included? Writing texts often takes longer than building.
- What does a change cost? Can you change texts, images and opening hours yourself – or does it require a request each time?
- What does maintenance include? Updates, backups, security – and how quickly is there a response if something breaks?
- How long are you bound? Minimum term, notice period – and what happens to the website when it ends?
- Are imprint and privacy policy included? Almost every business website needs a privacy policy – what goes in it.
- What does each additional language cost? In Switzerland often the most expensive line item.
